Inaugurated in 1315 to the presence of Roberto of Angiņ and Queen Sancia, it has suffered many remaking. Of great historical and artistic importance the chapel of the treasure of St. Gennaro, in which the cruets are guarded with the miraculous blood of the saint patron. Blood loosens twice a year, in May and in September, renewing a prodigy of which they are busy scientists of the whole world (a prodigy that also occurs in the sanctuary of St. Gennaro to the Solfatara of Pozzuoli, where they revive stains of blood on a stone on which the saint was taken off. To also visit the chapel of Saint Restituta, the first Neapolitan basilica, then incorporated in the cathedral. 
From this chapel it is accessed the archaeological zone, visitable in the weekdays from the 9 at 12 o'clock and from the 4.30 p.m. to the 7 p.m. and in the festive ones from the 9 at 12 o'clock (Lires 5000. Discounts for the groups).

Under the cathedral an archaeological zone with structures that go from the Greek age to the tall medioevo.
